Make a Splash on the Job
In honor of National Waterpark Day today, we’re looking at some ways you can make a splash on the job while working at a waterpark. Whether you’re a lifeguard or you sell refreshments these tips may come in handy (and this advice likely applies to other summer jobs as well!).
Stay Present. Working at a waterpark is not the time to be scrolling TikTok or texting your best friend. It is important to stay present and focus on the work you are doing, or else you might miss something. A waterpark is a very busy environment, from kids running into the pool to long lines forming at the ice cream stand, and if your eyes are down you may miss something important. Plus, it’s a nice mental break to not be on your phone during your shift and instead take in all of the fun sights and sounds.
Let Your Personality Shine. Believe it or not, many companies hire for personality over skills. Schlitterbahn Waterpark says they hire “for great personalities that will deliver that great guest experience.” So have fun and let your personality shine on the job. And always have a great attitude and be willing to volunteer to do the things that others won’t.
Don’t Float Through The Day. It may be easy to just show up and pass time until you clock out, but it’s better to approach the day by thinking about how you can add value and how you can gain value throughout the day to make the most our of your job. For example, you could add value by offering to help your coworkers with a task and you can gain value by asking your manager if you can learn from someone in a new department to grow your skills.
And lastly, don’t forget to wear sunscreen.
